Wine Tasting - Gruet Sparkling Brut & Juan Gil Monastrell

Sparkling wine is good any time of year, but there’s something about those first few warm days of spring that call for some bubbly and a porch. Gruet is a sparkling wine from New Mexico, of all places, but it’s some serious bubbles. With 75% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir—and the chalky soils, hot days, and cool nights—you could have fooled me into thinking this was straight up Champagne.

As for the Juan Gil Monastrell, the inky, intense, dry experience of this grape has led it to become one of Mac’s favorite inexpensive options for a great red!
